Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1, Verse 25 (BG 1.25) — Meaning, Translation & Commentary

Lord Sri Krishna brought that magnificent chariot to a halt before both Bhishma and Drona, and positioned it at a single point. Like a devoted charioteer, He speaks to Arjuna, saying: "Behold, O Partha, these assembled Kauravas before you." Throughout the entire first chapter, these alone are the words spoken by the Lord. Those words served as a spark that set ablaze the palace of false values and beliefs built upon Arjuna's ego, reducing it to ashes. Thereafter, we shall witness what effect these words had upon Arjuna and how his mind shattered and scattered. Partha means the son of Pritha—Arjuna. Pritha is another name for Kunti. In this Sanskrit word Partha, there lingers the fragrance of parthiva, which means fashioned of clay. This form of address carries profound significance. Its meaning is this: the Gita is the message of Truth, which the Lord—whose very nature is immortal nectar—imparted to Arjuna, the eternal representative of mortal humanity.
