11.2 भवाप्ययौ the origin and the dissolution? हि indeed? भूतानाम् of beings? श्रुतौ hav been heard? विस्तरशः in detail? मया by me? त्वत्तः from Thee? कमलपत्राक्ष O lotuseyed? माहात्म्यम् greatness? अपि also? च and? अव्ययम् inexhaustible.Commentary Kamalapatraksha Lotuseyed or having eyes like lotuspetals. Kamalapatra also means knowledge of the Self. He who can be obtained by knowledge of the Self is Kamalapatraksha.

Modern

In the dialogue between teacher and student, it is natural that upon the conclusion of a difficult subject, doubts or questions may arise in the student's mind. To resolve such doubts, the student may approach the teacher. However, before asking questions, the student must first demonstrate that they have clearly understood the subject that has been discussed. Only then does the student gain the right to seek resolution of their new doubts. Following this traditional method, Arjuna endeavors to tell Lord Sri Krishna that he has understood the subject of the previous chapter. Through hearing, he has come to understand the origin and dissolution of all beings, and the Lord's infinite manifestations. Yet, a doubt still remains—one that can only be dispelled when direct vision grants his intellect the certain knowledge of ultimate truth. This verse is the preliminary preparation for expressing the desire to behold the cosmic form. When a student, having demonstrated their worthiness, asks a reasonable question or seeks to know the remedy for a potential obstacle, the teacher should provide all possible assistance. We shall see how Sri Krishna, the Lord of yoga, here sets aside even his supreme authority and, moved solely by boundless compassion, reveals his cosmic form to Arjuna—simply because his student had earnestly requested to see it. Arjuna expresses this desire in the next verse.
