बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् ||७-१०||

bījaṃ māṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ viddhi pārtha sanātanam . buddhirbuddhimatāmasmi tejastejasvināmaham ||7-10||

Know Me, O Arjuna, as the eternal seed of all beings; I am the intelligence of the intelligent; the splendour of the splendid objects am I.

Who is the seed for Thee? the Lord would have replied? There is no seed for Me. There is no cause for Me. I am the source of everything. I am the causeless Cause. I am the primeval Being.

For those seekers of mature understanding, the examples given in the two preceding verses are sufficient to grasp the essential truth. But for those of slower intellect, they are not. Therefore, the Blessed Lord Krishna offers further illustrations here. I am the eternal cause of all beings. Just as a painter employs ever-new colors to render his painting more vivid and beautiful, so too does the Lord Krishna, not content with His brief statement, provide numerous examples through which we may understand the relationship between the visible, inert material world and the invisible, conscious essence of the self. I am the intellect of the wise. A person of wisdom expresses his divine nature through his ideals and thoughts. The true power of such a wise person's intellect is made possible only through the atman. In the same way, the radiance of the luminous also springs from the atman. In other words, the atman itself manifests through the faculty of intellect as a wise person. Just as electricity expresses itself as light in a bulb, as heat in a heater, and as music in a radio. The Lord continues to say:
