Nishkama Karma — Action Without Attachment

~12 min

This is the most quoted and debated verse of the entire Gita. Krishna tells Arjuna: 'You have a right to act, but not to the fruits of your action.' This is not about giving up goals. It is about performing your duty with excellence while releasing your grip on the outcome.

“2.47 Thy right is to work only, but never with its fruits; let not the fruits of action be thy motive, nor let thy attachment be to inaction.”

“2.48 Perform action, O Arjuna, being steadfast in Yoga, abandoning attachment and balanced in success and failure. Evenness of mind is called Yoga.”

In practical terms: study for the exam with full effort, but don't let your self-worth depend on the result. Help someone without expecting gratitude. Create without obsessing over recognition. This is not passivity — it is the most radical form of freedom in action.
