Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1, Verse 2 (BG 1.2) — Meaning, Translation & Commentary

From this verse onward, Sanjaya describes all that he witnessed and heard on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Though the Pandava army was vastly inferior in number compared to his own forces, when Duryodhana beheld it, the confidence of that tyrant began to waver. Just as a frightened child runs to his parents in fear, so too the troubled Duryodhana approaches his teacher Dronacharya. When we undertake any action with a purpose rooted in sin and injustice, even though we may be equipped with abundant resources, our mind is inevitably filled with anxiety, restlessness, and distraction. This is the state of mind common to all tyrants and those of despotic temperament.
