अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते |
असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ||१७-२२||

adeśakāle yaddānamapātrebhyaśca dīyate . asatkṛtamavajñātaṃ tattāmasamudāhṛtam ||17-22||


।।17.22।। जो दान बिना सत्कार किये, अथवा तिरस्कारपूर्वक, अयोग्य देशकाल में, कुपात्रों के लिए दिया जाता है, वह दान तामस माना गया है।।

।।17.22।।जो दान अयोग्य देशकालमें अर्थात् अशुद्ध वस्तुओं और म्लेच्छादिसे युक्त पापमय देशमें? तथा पुण्यके हेतु बतलाये हुए संक्रान्ति आदि विशेषतासे रहित कालमें और मूर्ख? चोर आदि अपात्रोंको दिया जाता है तथा जो अच्छे देशकालादिमें भी बिना सत्कार किये -- प्रिय वचन? पादप्रक्षालन और पूजादि सम्मानसे रहित तथा पात्रका अपमान करते हुए दिया जाता है? वह तामस कहा गया हैं।
