कृषिगौरक्ष्यवाणिज्यं वैश्यकर्म स्वभावजम् |
परिचर्यात्मकं कर्म शूद्रस्यापि स्वभावजम् ||१८-४४||
kṛṣigaurakṣyavāṇijyaṃ vaiśyakarma svabhāvajam . paricaryātmakaṃ karma śūdrasyāpi svabhāvajam ||18-44||
।।18.44।। कृषि, गौपालन तथा वाणिज्य - ये वैश्य के स्वाभाविक कर्म हैं, और शूद्र का स्वाभाविक कर्म है परिचर्या अर्थात् सेवा करना।।
18.44 कृषिगौरक्ष्यवाणिज्यम् agriculture? cattlerearing and trade? वैश्यकर्म the duties of Vaisya? स्वभावजम् born of nature? परिचर्यात्मकम् consisting of service? कर्म action? शूद्रस्य of the Sudra? अपि also? स्वभावजम् born of nature.Commentary When a man performs his duties rightly according to his caste and order of life his heart is purified and he goes to heaven. ।।18.44।।कृषि? गोरक्षा और वाणिज्य -- भूमिमें हल चलानेका नाम कृषि है? गौओंकी रक्षा करनेवाला गोरक्ष है? उसका भाव गौरक्ष्य यानी पशुओंको पालना है तथा क्रयविक्रयरूप वणिक् कर्मका नाम वाणिज्य है ये तीनों वैश्यकर्म हैं अर्थात् वैश्यजातिके स्वाभाविक कर्म हैं। वैसे ही शूद्रका भी? परिचर्यात्मक अर्थात् सेवारूप कर्म? स्वाभाविक है। जातिके उद्देश्यसे कहे हुए इन कर्मोंका भलीप्रकार अनुष्ठान किये जानेपर स्वर्गकी प्राप्तिरूप स्वाभाविक फल होता है। क्योंकि अपने कर्मोंमें तत्पर हुए वर्णाश्रमावलम्बी मरकर? परलोकमें कर्मोंका फल भोगकर? बचे हुए कर्मफलके अनुसार श्रेष्ठ देश? काल? जाति? कुल? धर्म? आयु? विद्या? आचार? धन? सुख और मेधा आदिसे युक्त? जन्म ग्रहण करते हैं इत्यादि स्मृतिवचन हैं और पुराणमें भी वर्णाश्रमियोंके लिये अलगअलग लोकप्राप्तिरूप फलभेद बतलाया गया है।
