श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात् |
स्वभावनियतं कर्म कुर्वन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम् ||१८-४७||
śreyānsvadharmo viguṇaḥ paradharmātsvanuṣṭhitāt . svabhāvaniyataṃ karma kurvannāpnoti kilbiṣam ||18-47||
।।18.47।। सम्यक् अनुष्ठित परधर्म की अपेक्षा गुणरहित स्वधर्म श्रेष्ठ है। (क्योंकि) स्वभाव से नियत किये गये कर्म को करते हुए मनुष्य पाप को नहीं प्राप्त करता।।

।।18.47।।ऐसा होनेके कारण --, अपना गुणरहित भी धर्म? दूसरेके भली प्रकार अनुष्ठान किये हुए धर्मसे श्रेष्ठतर है। जैसे विषमें उत्पन्न हुए कीड़ेके लिये विष दोषकारक नहीं होता? उसी प्रकार स्वभावसे नियत किये हुए कर्मोंको करता हुआ मनुष्य पापको प्राप्त नहीं होता। जो बात पहले स्वभावजम् इस पदसे कही थी? वही यहाँ स्वभावनियतम् इस पदसे कही गयी है। स्वभावसे नियत कर्मका नाम स्वभावनियत है।
