After speaking alone for so long and carefully weighing the strength of both armies, Duryodhana—now resolved for battle—pierces through the dense clouds of despair in his heart and begins to issue commands to his forces. His order is that all warriors and commanders remain at their assigned positions and fight with discipline, while also taking care to protect Bhishma, the grandsire. He fears that if the kings and tribal leaders who have come from distant realms scatter in disarray, victory will be difficult to achieve. Coordinated assault across all fronts at the same moment is the backbone of any army's success. Therefore, adopting a sound strategy, he commands all to remain at their various stations while protecting Bhishma, the teacher.
