Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 37 (BG 2.37) — Meaning, Translation & Commentary

In this battle, Arjuna's cause is righteous, and therefore it is fitting for him to fight from every perspective. Should he fall in battle, that valiant warrior shall attain the heavens; should he emerge victorious, he shall enjoy the sovereignty and splendor of the earth. Even after death, the mighty and courageous warrior who fights for dharma shall experience the bliss of heaven. Thus, all the reasoning presented thus far culminates in this declaration: resolve to fight, and stand ready. The counsel to engage in battle is justified within the specific circumstances in which the Bhagavad Gita's teaching was given. Yet in ordinary circumstances, the divine call of Sri Krishna carries a deeper meaning: that humanity must cast aside all forms of mental weakness and face the challenges that arise in life's struggles with courage and steadfastness, striving for victory. In this way, the teaching of the Gita is not meant for one individual alone, but proves to be beneficial and auspicious for all humankind throughout the world. Now hear the spirit with which one should engage in battle.
