विषयेन्द्रियसंयोगाद्यत्तदग्रेऽमृतोपमम् |
परिणामे विषमिव तत्सुखं राजसं स्मृतम् ||१८-३८||

viṣayendriyasaṃyogādyattadagre.amṛtopamam . pariṇāme viṣamiva tatsukhaṃ rājasaṃ smṛtam ||18-38||


।।18.38।। जो सुख विषयों और इन्द्रियों के संयोग से उत्पन्न होता है, वह प्रथम तो अमृत के समान, परन्तु परिणाम में विष तुल्य होता है, वह सुख राजस कहा गया है।।

।।18.38।।जो सुख विषय और इन्द्रियोंके संयोगसे उत्पन्न होता है? वह पहले -- प्रथम क्षणमें? अमृतके सदृश होता है? परंतु परिणाममें विषके समान है। अभिप्राय यह है कि बल? वीर्य? रूप? बुद्धि? मेधा? धन और उत्साहकी हानिका कारण होनेसे? तथा अधर्म और उससे उत्पन्न नरकादिका हेतु होनेसे? वह परिणाममें -- अपने उपभोगका अन्त होनेके पश्चात्? विषके सदृश होता है अतः ऐसा सुख राजस माना गया है।
