I am the taste in water, the light in the sun and moon, the sacred syllable Om in all the Vedas, the sound in space, and the fragrance in the earth. I am the virility in men and the austerity in ascetics. Know that I am the eternal seed of all beings. I am the intelligence of the intelligent, the splendor of the splendid, the strength of the strong, and the passion in those free from attachment. I am the life force in all creatures. Just as a precious gem is strung upon a thread, so all names and forms are woven upon My eternal essence. Though I pervade all existence, I remain unseen—like the soul that animates the body yet cannot be perceived by the senses. This is the eternal truth that the Lord Sri Krishna now reveals: the Atman, the Self, is the very essence by which all things possess their distinctive nature and existence.
