Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11, Verse 6 (BG 11.6) — Meaning, Translation & Commentary

Among the forms worthy of being seen, the Lord mentions only the most significant deities. Even in the worldly realm, when describing a gathering of people, only those esteemed individuals who represent that community are named and identified. Here too, in the Lord's words describing this cosmic form, there is a hint of frustration at His own inability to fully convey it, when He says: "Behold also many other unprecedented and wondrous forms never before witnessed." The many names mentioned here have been described in the earlier chapters. The only new name here is that of the Ashvini Kumars—the twin divine physicians. They are considered the two sons of the Sun, with faces of horses, and are known as the Ashvini Kumars, the healing deities of the celestial realm. In some places, they are regarded as symbols of dawn and twilight, while in other texts they are said to represent the stars of these two times of day. Having thus summarized the forms worthy of being seen in the cosmic form, Lord Sri Krishna has further kindled the curiosity of His disciple Arjun. Therefore, Arjun wishes to know where he might behold these forms. To this, the Lord responds:
