Glimpses of the Divine

Arjuna asks how he can possibly contemplate something infinite. Krishna answers with kindness: he gives Arjuna handholds — concrete places where the divine shines most brightly, so the mind has somewhere to rest its gaze.

अहमात्मा गुडाकेश सर्वभूताशयस्थितः | अहमादिश्च मध्यं च भूतानामन्त एव च ||१०-२०||

“Krishna begins: "I am the self seated in the heart of every living being, Arjuna. I am the beginning of all beings, the middle of their journey, and the end."”

First, the most intimate glory of all: 'I am the Self seated in the heart of all beings; I am their beginning, their middle, and their end.' Before pointing outward to grand things, Krishna points inward — the divine is nearest of all, the very awareness within you.

यद्यद्विभूतिमत्सत्त्वं श्रीमदूर्जितमेव वा | तत्तदेवावगच्छ त्वं मम तेजोंऽशसम्भवम् ||१०-४१||

“Krishna gives Arjuna a way to see the divine everywhere: "Whenever you see anything that is glorious, powerful, or full of energy — know that it is born from just a spark of My radiance."”

Then a sweeping principle: 'Whatever is glorious, beautiful, or powerful — know that it springs from a spark of my splendor.' Wherever you meet excellence — a towering mountain, a moment of genius, an act of great courage — you are seeing one ray of an infinite light. The whole world becomes a field of clues pointing back to their source.
